Start with the right question
Cost per successful delivery is the cost of an operation over a period divided by the orders that actually reached their destination. First define which services and dates you include. Comparing a small-parcel urban route with bulky-goods distribution mixes different operations. Track pickups, deliveries and returns separately: they all use resources, even when they do not produce the same commercial outcome.
What belongs in the calculation
Include labor, fuel, maintenance allocated to the period, insurance, rentals, communications and software. Allocate shared expenses using a consistent basis, such as hours worked or distance. Failed attempts belong in total operating cost; do not add them twice if fuel and labor already capture them. The value of goods collected on delivery belongs to the merchant and is not itself logistics revenue.
A worked example
Illustrative example, using one currency: an operation costs 3,000,000 and completes 1,000 deliveries. Average cost is 3,000 per successful delivery. If spending remains the same but only 900 deliveries succeed, the rounded cost rises to 3,333. Fuel prices did not change; the operational outcome did. Assess cost alongside completed orders, not just dispatched orders.
Separate software pricing
Ask what each provider bills. Onfleet states that it counts completed tasks, which can be pickups or deliveries. LogiXY presents packages of successful deliveries with no driver fees. Dividing a package price by its full allowance helps comparison, but does not turn that average into a standalone unit price or guarantee you will use every unit. Check validity and conditions before buying.

A useful review routine
Close a weekly worksheet with total cost, successful deliveries, attempts and failure reasons. Compare equivalent areas and service types, then choose one specific cause to address. Lower cost is an improvement only if it does not come with more delays, complaints or unrecorded work. The goal is a sustainable operation that delivers on its promise to your customer.
